April - Spring has sprung A very warm welcome to you all, here's the second newsletter from the Innovation Trek Racing team. We've been busy racing this month, from ripping up the track at the Velodrome to beasting the time trial courses of Cheshire, we've had success after success, culminating with a podium topping performance and a piece of silverware for the cabinet.
Racing News Since we last spoke we have been racing all across the region, from circuit races in Shrewsbury, to time trials in Chelford, from road races in Skelmesdale to track meets in South Wales. We not only have a very talented bunch of riders, but we also have a very dedicated bunch of parents, who ferry the lads to each and every race, without which we could not attend the multitude of races that we do.
Alex has been racing down in South Wales at the Icebreaker series, where the racing is fast and furious. Alex has been racing at the Derby Velodrome at the track league
Jack has been racing on the road, at Skelmesdale and Clitheroe
George, Joel, Brandon and Harry competed in the Manchester and District Juvenile 10 mile time trial championships.
Alex and Louis have been racing at Lichfield CCC Youth Races at Curborough #1, finishing a very criditable 7th & 8th, in a very strong field.
George/Alex, Brandon/Louis, Jack/Joel competed in the Nova CC 25 team time trail, posting fast times on a windy course.
George, Joel and Brandon have been racing each week at Manchester Velodrome ACT track league. Going into the Summer break, George leads with Joel and Brandon mid pack.
Harry is taken to racing with ease, learning more and more with each race, soaking up all he can, learning lines to take, who's wheel to follow and which breakaways to chase down. The results have been a bonus, with solid finishes in all of his races.
Looking ahead The indoor track season is taking a break after Easter for the Summer months, we are in a very strong position, with George currently leading the points table. We also have Joel and Brandon competing, who are scoring points every week, winning races and consolidating their league positions. The lads have been moved up to the top group, meaning they now race with the seniors, where they still manage to shine, and gather points. Not only have we representatives at the Manchester Velodrome, we have Alex racing at the Derby Arena, where he goes into the Easter break in a good position for a podium place. After Easter the track leagues move outdoors, with leagues being held at Newcastle-under-Lyme and Knowsley, these are both very different tracks to the Velodromes, but I've every confidence we can continue to be in the mix when sprinting for the line.
Late April we had the qualifying race for the prestigious GHS 10 mile Time trial, where only the best progress onto the National final later on in the year. We had high hopes for George, Alex and Joel, but the results far exceeded our hopes, all those that entered have qualified, the team has qualified, we had the fastest 13yr old, 14yr old, 15yr old and the overall winner, to say we were flabergasted was an understatment.
In May we have the North West Circuit Championships to look forward to, where we hope to have a full compliment of riders out on the Tameside track.
As you see we are bouncing from race to race, week in, week out. The lads just can't seem to get enough racing, our problem seems to be reigning them in to make sure they are fresh for each race, where we are ably assisted by our first class coach Jody Warrington. Jody tailors the lads training program dependent on the feedback he receives each week, increasing the intensity here, easing off there. It's a program with longevity in mind.
Thank you for taking time again to read our little update, and until next time,
