I wasn’t expecting Billy and Lee to make me ‘Road Captain’ but I was made up that they had the faith in me to try and take the team forward. First of all I laid out a plan for the team to follow, along with a few things that I wanted from the lads to help achieve our goal. I didn’t know what to expect but the real aim of my plan was to have the team work for each other as a TEAM.
Billy had told me to take charge, and to tell the Team what I would like from them, so on the day I did a short re-cap on what we wanted. All was left, was to see what happened…
The effort put in by the team was fantastic and I was amazed to see what we could achieve through communicating and switching on to what was happening in the race. Personally, I was expecting to have to boss the team a lot, but I was very wrong. The plan had clearly been studied and taken on board; everyone took their role on, which really helped to get the most out of our race.
A personal highlight of mine was having Brandon come up to the front of the chase group, where I was, and telling me “Alex says stop the chase”, as the pace was beginning to rise within the group. I was really proud to have the team communicating in one group, let alone communicating across the course in different groups! Truly impressive communication!
This race was a real step forward for the team and shows a lot of promise for things to come. I am really proud to be part of such a promising team and remain excited for things that are to come.
